Are you ready to return to Panem? Scholastic has announced that it will publish a prequel to Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games next year…
The book—so far only called “Untitled Panem Novel”—will be set 64 years before The Hunger Games, well before Katniss emerged onto the scene and changed the world. A statement from Collins reads:
“With this book, I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are, and what we perceive is required for our survival. The reconstruction period ten years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days—as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet—provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity.”
No word yet on who the central characters will be, or what events in the history of Panem the novel will cover. The prequel is set for release on May 19th, 2020.
